What is the difference between SPC flooring and WPC flooring?

WPC flooring and SPC flooring are two common types of artificial composite flooring, and there are some differences between them in terms of construction and materials.

WPC flooring (wood plastic composite flooring) is a composite material made of a mixture of wood fiber or wood powder and plastic (polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride). It usually has a multi-layer structure, including a wear-resistant layer, a printing layer, a texture layer, an intermediate layer, and a stabilizing layer.

WPC flooring is relatively thick, generally between 6 mm and 12 mm, so it is softer and more comfortable. It is usually installed using a hanging installation system and can be installed by splicing or bonding.

SPC flooring (stone plastic composite flooring) is a composite material made of a mixture of stone powder and plastic (polyvinyl chloride). Compared with WPC flooring, SPC flooring is harder and more stable. It usually consists of four layers, including a wear-resistant layer, a printed color decorative layer, a stone plastic composite core layer (substrate layer), and a mute layer. SPC flooring is thinner, generally between 4.2 mm and 7 mm (thicker can be customized according to needs, and the surface color texture can also be customized). Its installation is usually also a lock-type floor installation system, which can be completed by inserting and locking the board.

Here are some of the main differences between them:

1. Thickness and hardness: WPC flooring is relatively thick and soft, while SPC flooring is relatively thin and hard.

This means that there are differences in comfort and pressure resistance.

2. Material composition: WPC flooring uses wood fiber or wood powder, while SPC flooring uses stone powder.

This leads to differences in their appearance and texture.

3. Installation method: WPC flooring usually adopts a hanging installation system, while SPC flooring uses a click-type installation system. This also affects the method and difficulty of installation.

4. Stability: Because SPC flooring has a harder core layer and stabilization layer, it is more suitable for environments with high humidity or large changes. WPC flooring is slightly inferior in this regard.

These differences may vary between different brands and manufacturers. When choosing a floor, it is best to refer to the specifications and instructions for use of the specific product to ensure that you choose the material that suits your needs.

WPC flooring (wood plastic composite flooring) has the following advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:

1. Water resistance: WPC flooring is made of plastic components, so it has high water resistance. Compared with solid wood flooring or some other flooring types, it is more resistant to humid environments and water penetration. This makes

WPC flooring very suitable for installation in humid areas, such as bathrooms, kitchens or basements.

2. Wear resistance: WPC flooring usually has a wear layer, which makes its surface highly wear-resistant. This means that it can resist daily use, furniture movement and foot wear, thereby extending its service life.

3. Comfort: Compared with hard flooring materials such as tiles or marble, WPC flooring is relatively soft and comfortable. Its construction and materials provide a certain cushioning effect when walking on it, reducing the fatigue of the feet.

4. Easy to install: WPC flooring usually adopts a hanging installation system, which can be installed by splicing or gluing the sheets. This installation method is relatively simple and suitable for users who install it by themselves.

Disadvantages:

1. Swelling may occur: Although WPC flooring has high water resistance, it may still swell if it is exposed to water for a long time or installed improperly. Therefore, the correct installation method should be followed during the installation

process to avoid prolonged water immersion.

2. May be affected by temperature: WPC flooring contains plastic in its material composition, so it may expand and contract under extreme temperature conditions. In extremely cold or hot environments, the flooring may expand or contract,

and attention should be paid to temperature control and proper gap processing.
